点评:This is a must see in Galveston. For the admission price of $15 for adults, you may go on a self guided tour of the 1st and 2nd floors. There was audio available, but we chose to take a handout that describes the various rooms. These were numbered to accompany the audio, but not on the paper. It would be helpful if the paper handout also had numbers. The mansion is absolutely stunning. It was commissioned by Walter Gresham and he and his wife and nine children lived there, prior to it becoming “The Bishop’s Palace” it was referred to as “Gresham’s Castle.” Honestly, I found that it having been a bustling family home more interesting than the Bishop’s part of its’ history. Mr. Gresham had quite an illustrious past with involvement in the railroad industry and a U.S. Congressman. His wife was very artistic and they were well traveled. I cannot emphasize enough how fortunate we are to have this wonderful example of a Victorian mansion, that survived the 1900 storm and is in such an original state. Please take the time to tour. There are separate tours from the self guided ones that may be booked in advance, but are limited in size. These allow for seeing more of the home than the self guided tours.
