点评:An easy 10 minute walk from the top of the Spanish Steps and at only €10 entry fee this museum and crypt should not be missed. Unsettling, sobering and a deeply unusual tourist attraction this is the second time I’ve actually been here. The museum beforehand is interesting about the history of the Capuchin Order and the highlight in this section is of course the stunning Caravaggio. The crypt is the most unique thing I think I’ve ever seen a sobering thought to realise that the bones of well over 3500 humans are on display. Thought provoking and the hush that descends on entering makes for a calm and serene few moments as you pass through each crypt. The quotation by Nathanial Hawthorne on entry to the crypt asks many questions of the visitor - not sure whether I agree with his sentiment but what is more than true ‘ what you are now we used to be, what we are now you will be’. Can’t argue with that one can you? In my opinion a must see whilst in Rome and don’t miss the church above the crypts either.
