The Hawaiian Beach for Royalty and Tourist for Centuries
威基基海滩的点评
点评：This is an internationally renowned Hawaiian site that has entertained royalty and tourist for centuries. Waikiki was the first capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1795 when Kamehameha established his home here shortly after unification. He knew one of the best natural beaches in the kingdom. For the next 100 years, the beach was the beachfront sanctuary of Hawaiian royalty.
With the overthrow of the monarchy and American possession, tourism quickly became a staple, and the first grand hotels were built here beginning in 1901. The sandy beach with relatively shallow water was a perfect place for visitors. Today, the beach and surrounding area continue to be the epicenter for Oahu tourism with hotels, restaurants, entertainment and shopping. However, the heart of the area is the beach which is free to visit even if it is possibly the most crowded place in the state.
We stayed in the Waikiki area, so I made a point to visit once by myself in the early morning and once with my family in the afternoon. Both times it was a great experience as how awesome is it to see a beautiful seafoam green ocean with a soft sand beach framed by an extinct volcano. One of the highlights of both visits was the surfing. While the waves weren't the biggest, there were dozens of people in the water looking to catch a wave. The area is made for outdoor relaxation and people watching. Something you just have to do and see if you come to Oahu.
