点评:While on holiday and staying down the road in Conistone, we decided to have a walk to Kilnsey Park which wasn't far from our accommodation. We had heard about the lovely local tearoom on site with great local produce including the trout. Therefore were looking forward to a tasty lunch.
Upon arrival there were two staff members who didn't even look up as we entered through the door. We walked to the counter where the ice cream freezer and cake counter is hoping to get someone's attention. It took me having to wander across to a table and take a look at a menu myself and then take it across to the counter to ask if we could be seated. Perhaps I missed some kind of sign in the cafe telling us to take a seat first and then order, but as far as first impressions go it wasn't welcoming or friendly in the slightest.
The menu had a lot of choice which was promising. We decided to share a sandwich and chowder deal as we weren't super hungry having already eaten before our walk. We also had a bowl of chips to share too. The chips were dissapointing, which may seem like a mean comment to make. However, at £3.50 a bowl we expected a bit more than average frozen oven chips. Even the sauces to accompany them were the cheap sachets you expect to see in a much less exciting establishment.
We paid the extra supplement to have the trout sandwich alongside our chowder, which was understandable given that fish is not cheap anywhere you dine these days. When it arrived it was a very small amount of trout on the sandwich which was dissapointing given we had paid extra for it. It barely even covered the whole slice of bread. Not only that but there were bones in almost every single bite including the chower. Don't get me wrong, as a fish lover I fully expect to find the odd bone here and there when eating a fish dish. But the bones in the sandwich were so big and poking out all over, it was as if no effort whatsoever had been made by the chef to remove any of them before serving.
One sandwich and chowder to share, 2 cans of fizzy pop and a bowl of chips for £22 seemed a bit excessive given the experience we had. There was no side salad garnish to add to it or even the crisps which were stated on the menu. Such a shame as the gift shop and building look really lovely and have lots of local produce available to buy. The little nature trails and park itself are also really pretty and nice. Unfortunately the food and staff let it down on this occasion. Maybe we just came on a bad day, sadly will not be one to visit again for us.
