点评:This was part of a visit that included Alnwick Castle, the Alnwick Garden and Liliedorei. I had wanted to see Lilidorei since seeing the Channel 4 documentary in 2023 about its development and construction, however with no children of an age that would want to spend time in the play area, I was reluctant to pay £17.45 just to have a look around. When booking for The Alnwick Garden, which was the primary reason for the trip, I noted that I could add on a visit to Lilidorei for only £2.45, which seemed really good value and jumped at the chance – I wasn’t disappointed. The combined ticket for Alnwick Garden and Liliedorei was £21.25 (with 10% added to make a Gift Aid donation as it is a charity).
I arrived by car and used the dedicated car park on Denwick Lane (£3.75/ day) opposite the entrance, (use postcode NE66 1FJ for sat navs) with free parking for blue badge holders in a car park beside the entrance.
From the initial approach to Lilidorei, through the trees, past the Treehouse restaurant, you get a sense of what awaits. The first view of Liliedorei over its fence is a delight. As you approach the main gate, it speaks, however you actually enter through a small gate to the right of this.
We spent about an hour thereafter exploring the village and all the clan huts. The attention to detail in the build is fantastic, right down to the hut interiors, even although you can’t get into them. The path meanders back and forth through the village, so gives a sense of a longer journey and more space, even although the huts are relatively close. It reminded me of a maze, without the risk of getting lost. The back story is quite dark and reminded me of classics like the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales, which I really appreciated. There has clearly been a huge amount of though gone into this project – it’s not just another play area.
There is a story telling are set out with plenty of seating.
The centre piece is the enormous play area, with turrets, slides and high-level walkways. Adults are welcome to use this, in fact I’d say they were positively encouraged.
This is an absolute must for people with younger children, who could probably spend the whole day here, and also for adults who enjoy a bit of whimsy and fun.
There are food and drink options, where the prices are actually reasonable for an attraction of this type as well as a small gist ship, which you exit through.
I would happily visit again, but would probably opt for the combined Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei ticket.
