A Hidden Gem in Helen!

点评：We visited Uhuburg (Eagle Owl Castle) in Helen during Christmas 2025 with our two kids (ages 11 and 8), and it was truly an awesome experience. When we first saw photos online, we honestly thought the castle dated back to the 1800s and expected a traditional historical site — but it turned out to be something completely different, and in a very good way.
Advance online reservations are required, and during our visit the castle was open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Once you arrive, you park your car and take a shuttle up the hill, which already adds to the excitement. The castle itself is gorgeous, sitting high on a hill with incredible views. You can walk around the grounds, climb stairs, and enjoy stunning panoramas from several towers — the views alone are worth the visit.
The absolute highlight for us was the guided tour led by the owner of the castle himself, the charming Rob. He explains the inspiration and reasons behind building the castle, and it makes the entire visit even more special (no spoilers here — it’s something you should experience firsthand!).
If there’s one small downside, it’s that the visiting window feels a bit tight, but we still managed to see everything without feeling rushed.
Overall, this is a unique, memorable, and must-see attraction if you’re visiting Helen. We’re so glad we went and highly recommend it!
