When rain put an end to a day of golf near Mossel Bay, we decided to take a scenic drive to Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar—and what an unforgettable detour it turned out to be.
The journey itself was breathtaking. Endless golden canola fields stretched across the landscape beneath dramatic rain clouds, while the majestic Langeberg Mountains appeared and disappeared behind a veil of mist. It was one of those rare scenes that look as though they've been painted onto a canvas rather than existing in real life.
The warm welcome at Jakkalsvlei matched the beauty of the surroundings. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted like old friends and invited to settle beside the crackling fireplace, where we were welcomed with a complimentary glass of sweet wine—a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel at home.
The wine tasting was relaxed, informative and thoroughly enjoyable, offering something for every palate. The hearty country-style food was the perfect companion to the wines, making it easy to linger a little longer than planned.
