点评:Overpriced and way to well promoted for what it actually is.
We did a hike with a group of 14 people (max 16) and we just got 1 guide. They told us we would be hiking up between 3-5 hours and down about 2 hours. Extra porters joined us just in case you needed help with your bag or in case they needed to get you up the mountain.
The guide started off in a terrible tempo. Obviously he is used to do it (he climbs this mountain every week) and I am quite a hiker myself but this pace was just not doable for most of the group. But because he went so fast, everyone was in a hurry to follow him which made that many people decided to pay a porter to help them up the mountain. Two hikers even decided to quit after 20 minutes! I myself was still doing fine but they just kept on asking and trying to convince me to make use of their ‘service’.
Since the guide was far ahead and the porters had their own job, nobody told us anything about the flora and fauna. Nobody stood still to take a look at the birds or other animals. When I discovered a few animals, the porters nearby could not communicate in English or French to tell more about them.
Closer to the top we found the rest of the group, most of them exhausted by the high tempo. The guide himself was laying in the grass. I had about 10 minutes to eat my lunch and then we went back the same route. Again it felt like we were in a hurry (even tough the weather was great and there was no thunderstorm or rain nearby) and my friend was almost pulled from the mountain. I was walking by myself and was therefore able to take a look around sometimes. My friend told me she only saw her own feet and the mud for most of the trip.
We were back in 6 hours total (so not even that slow), the guide only answered a few of my questions but didn’t bother giving any information about the nature or the park.
The worst 150$ (for two persons) spent in the country. The porters do their job really well to be clear, so if you want a porter, your 15$ will be spent well. But the real question is: do you want to run up and down a volcano in the mud without seeing anything?
