点评:We had some great views of the Old Man of Hoy as we passed on the Northlink Ferry.
Formed by erosion of wind and sea over millennia the Old Man rises out of the Atlantic Ocean to a height of 450 feet off the west coast of Orkney. The Old Man of Hoy is the UK’s tallest sea stack. Separated from land the stack was originally an arch with two “legs”, hence its name, however a severe storm literally washed away one of the legs leaving the solitary pillar. No doubt the same fate awaits the remaining, but not for a few years yet hopefully.
Limited time on Orkney meant that we would only see it from the sea, but the views were magnificent on a clear morning from the sea.
