Officially in my eyes the World's Best Bookshop — and It Earns the Title Every Visit

点评：I've been to Readings Carlton more times than I can count, and it never disappoints. It was awarded the International Bookstore of the Year at the London Book Fair International Excellence Awards in 2016 — beating out legendary stores from London and New York — and on any given visit, you understand exactly why.
The famous bargain table near the entrance is always the first stop, a reliable source of genuinely interesting finds at great prices. But the real treasure on this visit was the cookbook section — one of the most impressive ranges I've seen in any bookshop. I spent time browsing Yotam Ottolenghi's Plenty More, the follow-up to his brilliant Plenty, and was seriously tempted by Phaidon's The Silver Spoon — a future purchase I suspect is already inevitable.
The staff are knowledgeable, the curation is exceptional, and the range spans everything from literary fiction to cookbooks, art books, vinyl and gifts — without ever feeling like it's trying too hard. Readings also stays open late, making it a perfect stop before or after dinner on Lygon Street.
A Melbourne institution in the truest sense. Non-negotiable if you're in Carlton.
