Fine preserved medieval caste along the Romantic Route
Harburg Castle的点评
点评：This is an 11th-century castle that sits above the medieval village of Harburg. It is considered one of the oldest and best-preserved fortresses in Southern Germany. We stopped by during a brief stop at Harburg as part of our self-drive trip along the Romantic Route and were very impressed with our experience.
Opening times are 10am to 5pm daily. Entry is €3.50 for adults which allows you to browse the interior courtyard grounds of the castle. Full access into the castle buildings is only available as part of Group Tours €5 per adult. Seems tours are mostly in German but English information is provided.
The castle having avoided war damage throughout its past, very much resembles what it looked like during medieval times. We enjoyed wandering the interior courtyard and viewing the inside fortifications. A brochure is provided so you have an idea of what you are looking at. Unfortunately, the interior buildings for the most part can only be accessed by those on organised and guided tours. However, you can can still have access to St. Michael chapel which was nice. Views of Harburg Old Town down below which you will see from the castle are outstanding.
Note: There is a car park just outside the castle or you can walk up to the castle from the village below if parking there for those who prefer to visit Harburg first and then walk up to the castle. You will also find is a cafe and gift shop inside the castle grounds.
