点评：My husband and I took the Shipley Farm tour. Both Gray and his father Bob Shipley treated us with genuine warmth and friendliness. Bob was very engaging and entertaining as he recounted his family history and the transformation of the farm’s origins from growing the family’s garden and tobacco products, to raising livestock and the challenges of maintaining a viable and sustainable privately owned farm business. It is encouraging to meet this generation of Shipleys and hear of their dedication to their mission of restoring regenerative farming and ethical animal husbandry practices, with the goal of providing nutritious food to their health-conscious customers. Leveraging modern marketing and advertising methods, as well as investing in the means and methods of production to their specifications is a part of their strategy to establish a reliable local food supply chain. The leisurely walk around the farm property was dry and doable despite rain in previous days. Although there were some cattle in the field, the tour did not take us near the animals nor inside any barns, so if you’re seeking more of a petting zoo type experience, this is not the tour for you. Since we didn’t have time constraints, Bob spent over 2 hours with us, answering all our questions. The small on-site farm store sells frozen Shipley Farms meats, beef tallow, non-GMO potato chips, frozen handmade pot pies, tallow-based personal products, candles, local honey and eggs, cold drinks and Shipley merch. It was a fun and interesting way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
