Modern museum, good audio guide, very nice cafe
Archaeological Museum of Chania的点评
点评:I walked to the museum from the harbour area, about 25-30 minutes. The signage as you get close is poor. The road it's on feels like a residential road but the museum does eventually appear. I walked past a wedding going on at the nearby Saint Mary Magdalene on the day of my visit.
Tickets were 15 EUR and, as usual, there was no mention/promotion of the audio guide. The audio guide is free and requires you leave some ID. It's very detailed and well worth using. It was quiet when I was there and a touch more mellow than the larger museum in Iraklion as it doesn't have the large tour groups.
The cafe on the upper level looks very smart, has a nice terrace and has good food. Service was a bit slack when I was there but I wasn't in a rush. I enjoyed the salmon and avocado bruschetta. The lemonade was a touch bland and didn't seem to have much of the advertised ginger in it. The mini apple pie goes very well with a Greek coffee. Worth timing your visit to allow you to visit for lunch. They might have a dinner service too in the evening, not sure about that.
