We enjoyed our visit to Plaza Mijares in San José del Cabo. After spending so much time enjoying the beach and tourist attractions around Los Cabos, it was refreshing to visit somewhere quieter and experience a little of the local history and culture. The plaza is charming, with colorful surroundings, palm trees, historic buildings, restaurants, and shops. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Municipal Palacio, which adds even more character and history to the area. It was nice to walk around, take photos, and simply enjoy the atmosphere without feeling rushed.
What I appreciated most was the history surrounding the plaza. Plaza Mijares is located in the historic center of San José del Cabo, near the old mission and the Municipal Palacio. Walking through this area, I found myself thinking about how many generations of people have passed through these streets. Los Cabos is so well known today for its resorts, beaches, nightlife, and beautiful ocean views that it's easy to forget how much history lies underneath it all. Knowing more about the Indigenous communities and the Spanish missionary period gave me a much deeper appreciation for what I was seeing.
I also liked that Plaza Mijares didn't feel like we were simply visiting another tourist attraction. It felt more relaxed and authentic. We could stroll around at our own pace, admire the architecture, look at the historic buildings, and watch people enjoying the plaza. Having the Municipal Palacio right in this historic area made the surroundings even more interesting to explore. Compared with the busier atmosphere of Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo has a much more laid-back charm, and I really enjoyed that difference.
If you're visiting Los Cabos, I would definitely recommend making time for Plaza Mijares and the surrounding historic district. Don't expect a huge attraction that will take hours to explore. Instead, come here to slow down, walk around, appreciate the historic buildings—including the Municipal Palacio—and enjoy the local atmosphere. For us, it was a pleasant change of pace and one of those simple stops that ended up being more memorable than we expected.
Overall, Plaza Mijares is a charming and worthwhile stop if you want to see the quieter, more historic side of Los Cabos. I'm glad we took the time to visit, and I would happily come back on our next trip.
