点评:The chocolate tour was included on our group tour of Costa Rica. It wasn’t quite what I anticipated from the description. At the entrance lodge we met our guide, a cheery girl who punctuated every sentence with “my friends” which was as annoying as it was overfamiliar. From there we had to cross the very long suspension bridge which I found disconcerting due to the open metal mesh panels and wild swinging. Then followed a 15 minute uphill hike along rough paths to the clearing laid out with tiered seating for the talk and demonstration about cacao production. There was seating for around 30 people but fortunately there was only our group of 10. I thought we would be inside a plantation but in fact there were no cacao trees there. The talk was interesting, informative and interactive as we were invited to handle and taste beans at various stages, culminating in tasting samples of chocolate which is not from the bio reserve but is commercially made elsewhere. The presentation took a couple of hours including all the walking so I suppose that is why they don’t do it closer to the lodge itself as it would not justify the cost.
