Impressive Palace with interesting Teutonic Order Museum
Residenzschloss Bad Mergentheim的点评
点评：The Residential Palace is probably the most important attraction in Bad Mergentheim. It is located just east of the Old Town and makes for a nice place to spend an hour or two sightseeing. Opening times are 10.30am to 5pm daily, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Entry fee €10 per adult. A thick guide in English is provided at the front desk with information for each room and gallery you visit. We found this very helpful for learning about interesting museum exhibitions and artefacts seen within the Palace. Just return to the front desk once you've finished your visit.
Historically, this palace was built in the 12th century and and has a very long history of being used by the Teutonic Order. You'll see Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance features representing various time periods of the palace's past.
Today, the palace plays host to the Teutonic Order Museum (Deutschordensmuseum) including a couple of floors that present around 800 years history of the Order You can also see the lavishly furnished State Rooms, the 18th-century Baroque Castle Church and Renaissance Courtyard.
A particular highlight that we enjoyed were the 16th-century Berwart Spiral Staircases, particularly the one just through the main entrance after the ticket desk. From here you can look straight up through the conical and spiral-shaped staircase through a central spindle.
We spent around 90 minutes at the Residenzschloss in Bad Mergentheim. There is a courtyard cafe that makes for a good spot to rest your feet and enjoy a coffee & cake before or after your visit. Just past the palace are the expansive Schloss Gardens which we didn't have time to visit on the day unfortunately.
