点评:Prior to driving the Cabot Trail, I did hear about Neil’s Harbour, so I stopped in at this village to have a look around. It is a quaint and quiet area with some scenic views, but the star of the village is the lighthouse. The lighthouse built in 1899, stands 34 feet high and has an ice cream shop inside of it.
There is a WWII memorial down the road, and it is hard to wrap your head around the level of sacrifice that families had to endure. There were several family names repeated on the memorial with three, four, even six sons that were in the war. The sons would work the boats and farms, so when all their sons from one household went off to war, the risk was monumental to the family and felt throughout this fishing village. There is something uniquely sobering about war memorials in small Nova Scotia communities, you don’t forget them once you have stood there.
