点评:One of the things that surprised me most about Lightning Ridge was its street art.
While wandering along Morilla Street, I came across a series of colourful murals that instantly made me stop and smile. Giant emus with oversized eyes, quirky personalities and humorous expressions seem to pop out from the walls and bring the town to life. Every mural has its own character, and it feels as though the birds are watching visitors as they pass by.
The artwork perfectly matches the personality of Lightning Ridge itself — creative, slightly eccentric and full of outback charm. I found myself slowing down just to admire the details and take photos from different angles. The bright colours against the deep blue sky created some fantastic photo opportunities.
What I enjoyed most was the sense of fun. So many public artworks try to be serious, but these murals don't take themselves too seriously. They celebrate local wildlife and community spirit while adding a touch of humour to everyday streets.
Even if you're visiting Lightning Ridge primarily for the opals, I would recommend taking some time to explore the murals. They add colour, personality and a unique artistic flavour to the town. It's a free attraction, easy to find, and a wonderful reminder that great art can sometimes appear in the most unexpected places.
Definitely worth a walk and a few photographs.
