点评:We joined this tour with Mekong By Local, guided by Sunny, and what I enjoyed most was the contrast between the two places we visited.
Cai Rang Floating Market was smaller than I had imagined, but I still found it interesting. It is a unique part of local culture, and seeing how closely people’s lives are connected to the river is worth experiencing. There were other tourists around, of course, which is understandable. A place like this is no longer a secret, but that doesn’t take away from its cultural value.
One of my favourite parts of the day was actually the local food experience. We sat in the middle of a market where local people were going about their daily routines and ate the kind of food they would normally have. The flavours were distinctly local, but what I enjoyed just as much was the atmosphere — listening to conversations, watching people come and go, and simply being there. Sometimes, the surroundings tell you as much about a place as the food itself.
Afterwards, Sunny introduced us to different kinds of fresh fruit and juices, including some varieties I hadn’t tried before. It was a nice opportunity to discover new flavours and learn a little more about the local produce.
Xeo Quyt was a completely different experience. There were hardly any tourists when I visited. Most of the people there seemed to be locals coming to relax, along with students learning about the area’s history. I enjoyed walking through the lush green forest. It felt peaceful, and I liked being able to explore the area on foot without feeling surrounded by crowds.
The boat ride was probably the highlight for me. Having visited several forests, I was particularly impressed by the fact that the boat was rowed by hand, without an engine. It made a real difference to the atmosphere. There was no motor noise, just the gentle movement of the boat and the sounds of nature around us. I haven’t experienced this in the other forest areas I’ve visited, and it made the journey through Xeo Quyt especially memorable.
Learning about Xeo Quyt’s history also gave the visit more meaning. It wasn’t just a walk through a beautiful green landscape; understanding its historical significance made me appreciate the place beyond its scenery.
Sunny guided us throughout the day and introduced us to the places, food, and local experiences along the way. I appreciated having the opportunity to learn more about the region rather than simply moving from one attraction to another.
It is a fairly long day, and the early start is something to keep in mind. But I liked how different the experiences were. The floating market showed one side of life in the Mekong Delta, while Xeo Quyt offered a quieter combination of nature and history.
Thanks, Sunny, for the day and for sharing these places with us.
Cay Rang
Xeo Quyt
