点评:Meeting us in a quiet part of the area, Mai
immediately set us at ease with her relaxed
and fun approach. We were taken to a small
shopfront, where Mai explained she works with a local family who still follow traditional practices and we dove straight in to the class.
On top of explaining each step in detail, Mai also had answers to all of our extra questions, even my boring ones about where they source steel or what type of wood the handle is.
The actual making of it is physical, so be aware of that, but you can be as hands on as you like (although the smithy will perform the crucial steps to ensure you have a usable product to take home). From shaping and grinding the steel, to shaping your wood handle, to finally putting it all together. It's a great feeling to have something you've built yourself. You can even have the wood treated, so it can be cleared through customs (us Aussies know how difficult that can be).
Highly recommend trying this experience out!
Thank you Mai!

Mai!
