点评：We visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber in July, and while the town was certainly busy, it never felt overcrowded. Of course, a stop at this famous landmark was a must.
This picturesque spot is one of the most iconic views in Rothenburg and arguably one of the most photographed scenes in all of Germany. Chances are you've seen it before on calendars, postcards, puzzles, or even as a computer wallpaper. Seeing it in person is every bit as charming as the photos suggest.
The scene is almost impossibly beautiful: a slender half-timbered house built in the 14th century nestled between two medieval towers (built around 1360), with a small fountain in front and cobblestone streets all around. It's easy to see why artists and photographers have been drawn to this view for generations. The setting is so enchanting that it reportedly inspired some of the buildings in Walt Disney's Pinocchio.
We found ourselves stopping here during our visit, taking photos from different angles and simply soaking in the atmosphere. Every direction you look feels like stepping back into time.
While this landmark deserves its fame, don't make it your only stop in Rothenburg. Be sure to visit the historic Town Hall (Rathaus), walk the well-preserved medieval town walls, and explore the many gates and towers that make this town so unique. The entire old town is a delight to wander through. And should you get hungry after soaking up all that history, don't fret, there are many delicious dining options all around, from typical Bavarian restaurants, to yummy ice cream parlors, to bakery stores offering delicious treats and sandwiches.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of those rare destinations that truly lives up to its reputation. Rich in history, incredibly well preserved, and wit modern amenities to make your experience a true delight. We loved every minute of our visit and can't wait to return.
