National Trust - Ashridge Estate的点评
点评：Ashridge → Ivinghoe Beacon walk – highly recommend!
We clocked 18,500 steps and 10km yesterday from Ashridge Monument to Ivinghoe Beacon. Most of it was easy-going, but the final climb up the Beacon gave us 3 stepped hills with lacy, spiralling chalky paths that really fired up the imagination on the way to the top. Honestly, the climb was worth it.
The view from the top is unreal — full 360°. You can see all the way from Oxford and the Cotswolds in the west, across to Tring, Waddesdon, and Milton Keynes up north. We even picked out Tring Windmill, the churches, and the reservoirs on the way.
Lunch break was perfect timing too. We sat facing east watching the flying school in action — brought back memories of Ken’s flying days — and could see as far as Biggleswade and Cambridgeshire.
Big shoutout to our walk leader Nick Hayes for bringing it all to life with stories about the Chilterns chalk hills, how the glaciers shaped the land, and the unique chalk grassland. Plus we lucked out with a clear day!
If you’re thinking of joining one of these walks, do it. Good exercise, great company, and you learn something new every time.
