点评:Situated in a park, the Leighton Buzzard Railway brings a smile to any visitors face.
We visited this treasured railway 30 years ago and clearly, whilst things have changed, it is still a valued part of Leighton Buzzard.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the station and are very reasonable for the experience.
Visitors can enjoy sitting in various carriages (open or closed) and some dating from WW2 which are pulled by steam locomotives along the line through roads and often across people’s back yards (not that anyone minds).
What is interesting to see is that people, dog walkers or car drivers all stop and wave at the trains, having become a valued part of the community.
Trains stop at the end of the line where visitors can learn more about the line’s history, buy food or craft items before they can travel on the train back.
On returning visitors can see the train sheds where volunteers can provide a history of the railways or trains. Tom gave us a fantastic history of the trains, each with their own story. If you can, see Challoner which is the only working 19th century train.
We visited the Railway on Mother’s Day and the volunteers made the day very special, taking a picture which was placed in a frame ready for our return and giving the mother’s a potted flower as a gift which was a nice touch to the end of the day.
This is a very special railway and needs to be supported and preserved for future generations.
For a great time, experience the Leighton Buzzard Railway.
