点评:We came very late in October and it was the perfect time to explore the site. An incredible place to reflect on the historical depth of Sicily. Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans contributed to the development (and refounding) of Solunto over centuries. Along with Palermo and Cefalu cathedral, this has been the historical highlight for us. And a bit unexpected because it is not well advertised. We more or less had the place to ourselves. Unlike Pompeii and other archeological sites, you get time to really stop and consider where you are, without the rush of the crowds. The guides inside the museums were also very warm and welcoming. There's lots of stunning pieces of pottery, painting, mosaic and other artefacts here. Small, but very nicely arranged. Other key pieces are in the Palermo museum.
We took sandwiches and lots of water as there is no refreshments and the nearby restaurant was closed until evening. But it is well placed to go to Bagheria or the coast afterwards for gelato and dinner. We followed up by driving the scenic route 12-15 minutes down to Aspra seafront for a view of Palermo over dusk. Note to families with archeological site reticent kids: there is incredible ice cream at Il Chiosco dei F.lli Sardina to look forward too!
