点评:One day excursion to Rukha village in the Huilloc district with guide Edward and driver Ronald.
Rukha is a small village of 20 families tucked away in the spectacular scenery of the Andean mountains far around from the hustle and bustle. The only sound as you eat an alfresco lunch surrounded by the rugged peaks will be the breeze in the trees and the birds.
But this excursion is more than scenery, it's a glimpse into the local culture. You'll learn how the alpaca fleece is turned into wool (and have an opportunity to give it a go, really its not as easy as it looks!), see how it is dyed and learn about the natural materials used for the dyes and watch the women weaving their latest garments. They will also explain the meaning of the symbols on their ponchos and the stories they tell and you'll learn how to tell from a hat whether a young man or woman is married or not! But before you've even reached the village, your head will be spinning with all that you have learnt during the 40 minute car ride covering diverse topics from languages to politics to agriculture.
Many of those who work as porters on the Inca Trail are from this and similar communities so it is great to have a better understanding of the communities they belong to.
Conclusion: An enjoyable and informative trip that I would definately recommend.
