You get bus 6 from near the train station, the bus stop is opposite outside the small supermarket. I have copied the link to 'Trieste trasporti' please read these reviews in the link below and don't get caught out.
The only way I have worked out you wouldn't be fined (€71 each) is if you each use a different credit/debit card and even children from the age of 10 require their own. Even people who validate their paper ticket on board have been fined. I just want to inform as many people as possible as I have never encountered this before, we then went onto Slovenia, Austria and Germany from here and you can buy tickets from the bus driver, therefore being completely confident you have done the right thing. Even in Paris, Budapest, Prague etc you can validate with a stamp, not a scanner, again being confident in the fact you have done so.
