点评:We visited MuseumsQuartier during an art-focused trip to Vienna in late August. We happened to visit on a Monday, when not everything within the complex was open.
That may have made us appreciate the place itself even more.
Rather than simply moving from one museum to another, we had time to experience MuseumsQuartier as a place in its own right. Historic architecture sits alongside striking contemporary museum buildings, while courtyards, cafés, installations and open spaces connect everything in between.
What I liked most was that art here does not feel confined behind museum doors. It spills into the architecture, courtyards and public spaces. People meet, have coffee, wander around and simply spend time there.
There is no feeling that you need to follow a particular route or see everything. We could wander, stop, look around, sit for a while and then continue.
The people we encountered were friendly and helpful, and we also found the admission fees surprisingly reasonable.
For three friends visiting Vienna largely for its art, MuseumsQuartier felt less like another attraction on our itinerary and more like somewhere we naturally belonged during the trip.
The museums may be the reason you first come, but the courtyards, architecture, cafés, art and people give you reasons to stay.
The individual museums deserve their own stories.
MuseumsQuartier might just be Vienna’s best living room.
