点评:The 17th century church was originally dedicated to Saint Paul, then it was renamed to the current name to celebrate the Catholic victory over the Protestants at the Battle of White Mountain near Prague.
The church is located in San Bernardo square right in front of the fountain of Moses and very close to the Republic square facade is clearly influenced by the nearby Sainte Suzanna at the baths of Diocletian. The interior, Latin cross layout, has a single nave with three chapels on each side, a large apse and moderate size dome.
People primarily visit the church to admire the interior columns, the ceiling and the golden apse, but above all the famous Bernini's masterpiece Ecstasy of St. Theresa in the Cornaro chapel. The statue is floating in the air by means of hidden iron pins to attach it to the wall, while the golden solar rays align with the natural light rays.
The church is relatively small but it is worth a visit especially if you are nearby. The Bernini talent is not to be missed.
