点评:This is one of several long and narrow bodies of water with the Yalgorup National Park in the Peel Region around halfway between Perth and Margaret River. This is a important wetland area for migratory birds. However, the lake is best known for the presence of thrombolites, also referred to as living rocks which can be viewed in the lakes shallow waters.
There is a carpark off of Mount John Road where you find trailhead for several walks around Lake Clifton. You will also find a short walk to the lake and a wooden boardwalk from where you can view the thrombolites up close. This is one of the only places in the world where these unique structures made up of microorganisms that resemble the earliest forms of life on earth can be seen.
We visited as part of a drive between Margaret River and Perth. It makes for a nice, brief stopover for those travelling between these two locations in W.A.
