点评:This was the highlight of Roskilde and the reason we went. We took the train from Copenhagen and walked from the train station. It was a pretty easy walk and took about 15 or so minutes to get there. We had a Copenhagen Card, so our admission was covered by that. There are guided tours about every hour which are included in the general entry fee, though language does vary by time of day. Most of them are in English or Danish from what I could tell. They seem to alternate between inside and outside (boat yard and museum). You have the option of booking a trip out on one of the Viking boats as a rowing excursion as well (a few times a day) for an additional fee, though the weather was questionable on the day we visited at arrival so we decided to take a pass on this add-on. The staff inside as well as all the guides and the ship builder were great!
This place can get crowded and is almost two separate worlds - Inside and Outside. The Inside is a calm, standard museum with the old boats, a guided tour, and historical artifacts and timelines to see and learn about. Outside is more lively and hands-on. There are boatbuilders and woodworkers, little areas for kids to build things and learn hands-on, and overall see things. The boats that are built are out here as well. They've all been hand-built based on what they've learned about the boats using tools that they've learned about and rebuilt. It takes many years to do this and is a constant process. Out here you can also walk about one of the boats as well, so don't feel like the only way to climb aboard one is to do the rowing excursion. You do this as part of the outdoor guided tour as well. Oh, there's also a little cafe out there as well.
