点评：Basel cathedral is the most impressive church in the city of Basel and its distinguishing landmark. Originally constructed in the 11th century, the building was expanded and modified in subsequent centuries and today it is renowned for its red sandstone walls, its colourful roof and its twin towers. The outside of the cathedral has a primarily Gothic appearance, while the inside is shaped more by Late Romanesque artistic conventions.
Entry to the cathedral is free but you can also pay around £5.50 to ascend the 250 steps to the towers to enjoy a splendid view of the city. However, you should take note that admission is only allowed in groups of 2 people or more and last entry is half an hour before the church closes.
Give yourself at least half an hour to explore the cathedral and make sure you check out the nearby banquet hall and the observation point from which you can take great photos of the city and of the lovely river.
