点评：Kunstmuseum (art museum) Basel houses the oldest public art collection in the world and is undoubtedly one of the most important museums in Switzerland. Containing a total of over 300,000 works, the collection dates as far back as the Amerbach cabinet, acquired by the city and university of Basel in the 17th century. Since then it has expanded to include many other works of classical art, as well as many notable modern art pieces, and in 2016 a new building was opened which is used for temporary exhibitions and to display art from the second half of the 20th century.
Visitors to the museum can see works by many remarkable painters such as Hans Holbein the Younger, Rembrandt, Rubens, Cezanne, Monet, Modersohn-Becker, and Picasso, as well as sculptures by Rodin and Giacometti. Some of the other artists who are represented in the collection are Paul Klee, Warhole, Chagall, Munch, and Georges Braque.
The museum has several kinds of tickets, the most expensive of which costs around £32 and grants visitors entry to both temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection. The cheapest ticket, which entitles you to entry only to the permanent collection, costs £23, but visitors can get a 25% discount through the Basel card, which they would get if they are staying at any hotel, hostel, or bed and breakfast in the city. Although entry to the museum is fairly expensive, it's definitely worth it and I recommend that you set aside at least a couple of hours to explore the many amazing works on display.
