点评:We have explored this Nartiang Monoliths during our Visit to Maa Jayantee Temple. We were not aware of this Monoliths, our taxi driver only suggested to visit same.
Nartiang Monoliths are situated at walkable distance from Maa Jayantee temple, and these are world's largest and tallest monoliths, some are reaching heights of over 8 meters. These tall standing stones erected centuries ago by Jaintia Kings as memorials. These stones are remnants of an ancient practice where they were erected to honour the achievements and memory of the local Jaintia Kings. The practice of erecting monoliths is deeply rooted in the Khasi and Jaintia cultures, Symbolizing strength, honour, and respect for the ancestors. The flat monoliths are dedicated to the male ancestors. These Monoliths are believed to have been erected between 1500 CE to 1835 CE. The locals refer to the place as "Kper Mawbynna" Which means Monolith Garden. The site has been declared of national importance under the ancient monument and archaeological sites and remains act 1958.
Nartiang derives its name from the Jaintia words "Nar" meaning human and "Tiang" meaning pillars, reflecting the human made stone structures.
