点评：This is a place that’s a bit hard to find, but absolutely worth the time and effort. It was easily one of the top three most impressive sites we visited during our trip to Portugal.
We were lucky to have an unplanned tour with Michael, a member of the church staff, who warmly greeted us and kindly offered to show us around. He is incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer almost every question we asked. It’s clear that he truly cares about this place — he knows every corner of the church and shared many fascinating hidden details and stories that we never would have discovered on our own.
For example, Michael explained why the church has two organs, and which one is decorative rather than truly functional. He showed us how the priest used to access the pulpit, through a hidden door behind the wall, something we never would have noticed by ourselves. He explained the purpose of the spikes on the church door and the historical reasons behind them. He also told us how they maintain and operate this place despite the many challenges. Without Michael’s guidance, we would have missed at least 90% of what makes this place so special.
We highly recommend that anyone who is genuinely curious about the history and background of this church ask the staff for help, especially Michael. His passion and knowledge truly bring the site to life.
