点评:We visited Restoration House on one of the only open Saturday in July 2026 with the kids. We lived in Rochester over a decade and never been, wish we had gone sooner.
You enter off Crow Lane and straight away it's like stepping back in time. The house is incredible. It is still a family home so it doesn't feel like a museum, every room is crammed with art and furniture and interesting bits. The lady in the upstairs room was lovely, told us all about Charles II and the Miss Havisham story from Great Expectations.
As for the garden, it is out of this world. What an absolute gem. I honestly didn't expect it to be that big or that beautiful tucked away behind the High Street. So peaceful, you can't hear any traffic. The formal gardens, the ponds and fountains, everything is immaculate.
We did house and garden ticket - over 2 hours we spent there just enjoying the place. Little tearoom at the end for a cuppa.
Tip - check opening days, it's only Thursdays and Fridays in summer.
It is really is a hidden gem in Rochester, with amazing volunteers. I would highly recommend a visit. We will hopefully return before they close for the season.
