点评：Our visit to the Holy Church of Saint Demetrius (Άγιος Δημήτριος) in Thessaloniki was nothing short of unforgettable. Traveling with our two children (ages 8 and 11) and my parents, we weren't sure how much a historical religious site would engage everyone. But from the moment we stepped inside, we were all captivated.
The Church – A Living Monument
The church is massive yet welcoming, with beautiful light streaming through high windows. The children were fascinated by the crypt – an underground museum where Saint Demetrius was martyred. They loved seeing the ancient Roman baths and the well where tradition says his relics were found. My parents were moved by the silver reliquary and the frescoes depicting the saint's life.
What made it special for our family was the peaceful atmosphere. Even with other visitors, there was room for quiet prayer and reflection. We lit candles together – a simple ritual that even our kids understood and respected.
