西海岸奇异鸟馆的点评
点评：Visited the centre today, so that I could see a Kiwi and my wife loves penguins.
Basic adult entrance, unguided, is NZD65
Whereas, VIP guided tour and backstage pass is NZD95
I thought that the prices were a little expensive but did not want to leave New Zealand without seeing a kiwi, so I purchased the unguided tickets.
Kiwi are nocturnal birds and hide extremely well in their area, owner told us that if we could not see them properly we should ask one of his team to bring in a red light that would not disturb them, I tried this without success until one of the team showing around a VIP group came into the kiwi area.
Animals and birds are only kept at the centre until they are ready to be released. The 7 penguins will not be released as they all have severe injuries, missing limbs and such. There enclosure is lovely and we saw them fed twice whilst we were there.
The centre houses a hatching program for kiwi birds.
