点评:The "Chiesa di San Zaccaria" (Church of Saint Zechariah) was founded in the early 9th century. It was rebuilt in the 1170s and it was replaced by a Gothic church in the 15th century. The present church was built between 1458 and 1515 in Renaissance style.
The church houses one works by Giovanni Bellini, Andrea del Castagno, Palma il Vecchio, Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Anthony van Dyck, Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo and others.
There is also a crypt that once housed the tombs of eight of the doges of the first centuries of the Republic of Venice, and, according to tradition, the body of Saint Zechariah also lay here. Currently, the body of Saint Zechariah is hosted, together with the body of Saint Athanasius, on a side altar.
At the time of my visit (early February 2026) the crypt was flooded due to "acqua alta" (high water) and I could only have a glimpse of it from the stairs leading to it.
A small museum of sacred art is also present, with little explanation of what is on display.
