点评:We entered via the beautiful old St James Church in Castle Acre and then wandered across the small alley to the fields to the southwest. These were the gardens used by the Monks to grow their food. After a few metres the Monastery ruins emerged. See photo attached. Like Stonehenge it was breathtaking to see it jump out of the landscape. Better than seeing it from the normal front gate entrance via the visitor shop. The actual ruins are fantastic. The two rooms at the top of the only intact building standing were the highlight. The private quarters and the adjacent reception room of the head Monk. The large dining halls below were also impressive. The dormitory, hospital, and study areas to the east were very interesting too. A surreal place. Easy to imagine the way it was all those years ago
