点评:Not having any visual aids to show others my disability often means I need to edit my own experience to be a part of the goings on.
Our Lookout Archery Guide, Chris, saw the changes, communicated with me and offered me the options. No big deal, no fanfare or explanation, just editing and offering up the options.
After being invited to an archery session with my family and realising my strength was not good enough to hold an bow and standing while pulling sows bow back would be an issue, I asked for a lighter weight arrow.
After realising standing for instructions would be an issue and finding a chair, Chris, our guide edited and changed up the options to make me feel included and allow me to stay part of the session.
Moving the chair position, editing arm position, moving the target forward, inwas still capable of
- joining in all rounds, not needing to sit any out
- hitting, most of, my arrows on to the target
- hitting a ballon, hitting vegetables
- counting up the scores
Yes I took a little longer, but due to the reasonable adjustments added in I could enjoy myself, log a score every time the rest did, and leave energy to enjoy a drink afterwards with the family, catching up and comparing archery techniques.
Top marks Chris. Brilliant example of real inclusion.
