Fantastic ninety minute distillery tour in Whitby
Whitby Distillery的点评
点评：This was one of the best distillery or brewery trips I have ever experienced.
The location of the distillery at the moment is on the outskirts of Whitby on a small industrial estate and we got a taxi from the rank at Whitby railway station which took five minutes (all uphill) to get there. After the tour we walked back into Whitby (downhill) which took about twenty minutes. There is limited car parking outside but other places to park just round the corner.
The tour guide was a lovely lady called Annie who was very welcoming, friendly, informative and very proud and passionate of the local area and also the distillery where she works.
There were 12 people on the tour when we visited which was just about the right amount. The tour takes place in the heart of a working distillery and you are surrounded by the equipment that makes the products.
The welcome gin drink is served with either lemonade or tonic with a slice of grapefruit and garnish. Soft drinks are available for car drivers or non drinkers on the tour who also get a miniature bottle to drink when they return home or give to someone who does drink.
The starter gin drink is leisurely consumed while you sit and enjoy the tour guide explaining how the company started to their exciting future plans to relocate very shortly to premises under construction next to Whitby Abbey.
Also explaining how local products are used in the products and the process to make them.
You then move across the distillery to the rum station to sample two different rums which were both lovely.
When the tour concludes after 90 minutes or so you get to keep your glass tumbler which the host wraps for you. There is also 10% off for visitors on the tour when buying in the small store which sells all the companies range.
A fantastic way to spend part of the afternoon supporting a genuine small English company with great ethics and intentions and proud of the local heritage and culture.
