Wonderful 12th century church with decorated interior

点评：We drove to the Holy Church of Panagia of Asinou, a small, 12th century church famous for its iconography. There is a small car park outside and the church is a very battered, restored and distinctly wonky building, having survived a thousand years of earthquakes, mountain weather and decline. There was priest there when we arrived and he was helpful in explaining some things and selling us a guide book to explain others ;)
The entire interior of the church is filled with frescoes, every part of the walls and ceiling being painted. These mostly dated from the 12th century but continued to the 14th century. I am guessing they are periodically refreshed as the colours were amazingly fresh and vibrant. The guide book, I hope, will explain what we were looking at as I don't speak Greek and there was nothing I recognised other than maybe Helena and Constantine.
