点评：I visited the RAF Manston History Museum recently and, while I appreciate the dedication of the volunteers who clearly work hard to keep the museum open and accessible, I left feeling somewhat disappointed.
RAF Manston has a rich and fascinating history, and I had hoped the museum would tell that story in a more focused and coherent way. Unfortunately, many of the airframes on display appear to have only a tenuous connection to RAF Manston itself. As a result, the collection feels less like a museum dedicated to the station’s history and more like a disparate collection of mainly Cold War and replica aircraft, such as can be seen at many aviation museums.
This feels like a missed opportunity, it seems like they are trying to cover too much ground. With Manston’s important role across multiple eras of aviation history, there is great potential for a compelling and distinctive museum centred on the airfield and the people who served there.
The volunteers deserve recognition for the time and effort they put in, and the museum clearly benefits from their enthusiasm.
