点评:The most important thing to know about this museum is that the genuine, most iconic version of Munch’s 1893 “The Scream” is here, in the National Museum, NOT the Munch Museum. The Munch has other versions; this is the one you came for! It’s in room 60.
The National Museum is located on the waterfront in Oslo, walkable or accessible by public transport from anywhere in the city. It is a beautifully designed and easily navigated building with a wonderful collection. You’ll need to check your overcoat and store it downstairs in a free locker upon entry; you will not be able to bring food or drink into the museum. There is a cafeteria with free water available, as well as delicious coffee and pastries (not free).
This is a huge space with lots of walking involved. Take advantage of their excellent website to do research ahead of time. We were able to create an online “collection” of works important to us; we made a cheat-sheet on their locations within the museum. This way we were able to view those first-while we were still fresh.
We especially loved the atmospheric “fairytale” room (room 64) with my favorite work by Theodor Kittelsen, “Sea Monster.” We previously saw a nice exhibit on Kittelsen in the Bergen Troll Museum; we appreciated the chance to view this fun original painting.
