An unmissable tall landmark in the Marina
Monumento A Los Corsarios的点评
点评：Monday 22nd September we wandered exploring and sightseeing around the Port/Marina area and old Ibiza Town.
It was along here that we spotted this monument, due to it’s height it is very difficult to overlook.
It stands on a paved area by the waterfront along Carrer Andanes.
On each of the four sides of the base a set of stone steps lead up to an area of curved stone. Sitting on top of this is a large square stone which has a metal plaque on each side. There is an inscription on each plaque, we were unable to translate.
This is topped with a tall obelisk comprising of three sections.
We did learn the obelisk was crafted by Augusto Font, a Catalan architect. The staute was unveiled in 1915.
It is a tribute from as the people of Ibiza, it symbolises their gratitude to the corsairs and sailors who protected them from invasion. They risked their lives and in many occasions perished in the process.
