点评:Definitely a neighborhood beauty - that architecture and color scheme is the quintessential energy needed in the community!
For us the footprint was parochial. Why does Wegmans, ESL and Bill Grays need to have their brand name emblazoned on these interior neighborhood buildings? Is a museum dedicated to creativity and children’s imaginations really advertising three local companies? I mean I’m sure there were donations from all three, but the blatant showcasing of their logos and name is déclassé at the very least. Why not just have a plaque outlining these businesses and forego the branding?
The market is adorable, don’t get me wrong, and the theater is a nice idea. Not sure that this place needs a burger-joint-diner right when we walk in but there it is. How about some ‘healthy’ options? So off-putting to smell grease in this space. I couldn’t help but feel the Barbie exhibit was a crude display of advertising, looking more like department store marketing. And then when I arrived at the games
The other issue of contention is the fact that the carousel requires a ticket and the price is not included in the basic admission to the museum, jeez. Really? In a town where the carousel is iconic the museum charges another fee for a once-around twirl.
Perhaps over the years there will be changes to bring each section of the museum into the same sophistication as the architecture and historical exhibits. For me I felt the museum was divided into areas that were lacking a connection to the others. It seemed as if there were committees that wanted a definite look and feel for the educational and historical exhibits (how about that ropes course and Sesame Street? Or the inventors circle) but that same level of sophistication, class and creativity were left out where the short-term exhibits and the electronics play area (where it felt as if I walked into a Chuck E. Cheese or Dave & Busters) is concerned.
I’ll check it out again in a few years.
