点评：Arrived here, with few expectations other than the guidebooks and tourist offices saying it was worth a detour. Not the easiest of places to find despite being able to see it from miles away, but well worth the effort. Parking at the foot of the hill - €4 - but allows you the chance to visit the village as well (and the church is worth it, as the choir stalls are quite special)
Obviously a climb up to the entrance, and we weren’t sure why there were notices about a Jean Mouliérat. We subsequently discovered that he was a very famous opera singer at the end of 19th century. (A Pavarotti of his time presumably money wise) He bought the ruined chateau and two houses in the village for 10,000 francs (somewhere in the region of € 65,000 in today’s money) and then spent what must have been a fortune restoring the chateau, as a second home, and collecting furnishings, tapestries, porcelains and other artefacts so that it now it is like a museum. Some fabulous pieces. There are also interesting audio visual descriptions about both him, and the chateau.
We would have liked to spend longer mooching, but it was closing for the afternoon.
The views are fabulous. Some bits are still rather in ruins, but the part that he and his wife inhabited has been carefully restored. The glass in some of the windows is quite exceptional.
