点评：I read a number of reviews and it is obvious that now Sri Lanka is relatively calm after decades of different challenges the tourist numbers have increased significantly. This is apparent in number of hotels being constructed in the area Rekawa Beach is protected as it is a major turtle nesting beach and there are improvements since we were last here in 2023.Firslty during turtle nesting season you are not allowed on the beach between 1900 hrs and 0600 hrs unless you are accompanied by an official guide.Secondly there are now 10 rangers employed overnight who can target the turtle nesting location.This is essential so they can relocate the laid eggs in a restricted area where they are reburied and sand covered in mesh.The hatching can be estimated by the gestation period.During the day this restricted area is under surveillance by two rangers.The turtle egg relocation is to ensure that the iguanas do not eat the eggs.One of the images shows an iguana at egg burial site.The hotels do not necessarily promote night turtle watching from a conservation perspective and to not disturb the turtles,Obviously there is a financial element to guided turtle watching
and the reviews suggest that the behaviour in these groups is sometimes unruly but this is human nature particulary in instagram age.
We were fortunate to observe under guidance a turtle laying eggs during daylight late afternoon.It was quite extraordinary and at a similar time another day we observed hatching olive turtles both by accident as we were doing a walk on the expansive beach
During our early morning daily walks on the beach you could observe all the turtle tracks.It must be a challenging journey as there are strong undercurrents huge crashing waves creating steep access in parts.It is also totally unsuitable beach for swimming
