Our experience on the La Chiva Rumbera in Cartagena was, overall, a tremendously fun and lively evening. It's an iconic way to experience the city's festive spirit, combining a mini-tour with a vibrant party atmosphere. The bus adorned with lights added to the celebratory mood, making for a memorable ride.
However, there were several noticeable drawbacks that potential visitors should be aware of. The most significant issue was the aggressive presence of street vendors. While the chiva itself is a moving party,before leaving or whenever the bus made a stop or idled, vendors would immediately swarm the vehicle, persisting until the bus departed, which significantly detracted from the enjoyment of these moments.
Furthermore, we found that the tour did not last the two hours that were promised, cutting the experience shorter than expected. And, as one might anticipate with an open-sided bus, there is no air conditioning available, which, combined with Cartagena's heat, can make for a very warm journey.
In summary, La Chiva Rumbera offers a unique and enjoyable party atmosphere with a glimpse of Cartagena by night. It's great for those looking for a lively, social experience. Just be prepared for the relentless vendors during stops, the possibility of a shorter-than-advertised duration, and the lack of AC.
