点评:My wife, an historian of the ancient world, and I, an amateur, are interested in shipping and navigation on the Mediterranean, so for us this museum is a delight. The recovery and restoration of the ships is explained with photographs. There is a good collection of artifacts, with information in Italian and English.
My one complaint, and it is a big one, is that the museum is both not easy to get to from Fiumicino airport (it's a 15-20 minute walk, dodging across lanes of fast-moving traffic with no directions or signs to follow) and not at all promoted. It would be a wonderful diversion, not only to say educational, for people with long layovers or, you can do as we do and build it into your travel plans to and from the airport. As it is, there are few visitors to what is one of the richest collections of preserved ancient ships in the Med, quite likely because no one knows about the museum.
There should be a shuttle or at least signs pointing out the way from the airport and the Hilton Hotel where people like us spend the night in anticipation of our flight the next morning.
It's a shame, because the Roman harbors that were in the vicinity of the airport were remarkable marine constructions and the grains and other goods that came by way of ships as important to the Roman population as are the aqueducts that brought water to the city.
